that was the dumbest shit i have ever read. um... guess what fucker? the united states navy sent the USNS Mercy to help out in Haiti which by the way is not a small ship at all. the ENTIRE thing is one big ass hospital. and along with that ship were a couple of other ships. and planes. what so the us sends 21 planes to help out haiti and calls back 3 and all of a sudden its a sin? really? there would still be 18 planes going to help out. and the US government told the residents of new orleans to get out but they didnt listen. and the government did help the katrina survivors.. where you are getting your information is beyond me. and the best defense is a good offence. because if terrorists fuck our shit up and then we fuck ALL of their shit up that says to other would be terrorists 'dont fuck with us. at all.' and who do we 'murder' have you even read up on the military's 'law of armed conflict' ? im guessing not. and have you even looked up about the quality of life before we entered those countries? yeah im guessing that you havent. at all. and guess what mr spock if the us military's only use was to fuel the war industry then WHAT WOULD FUCKING HAPPEN IF WE GOT ATTACKED? oh shit you didnt think of that now did you? yeah... the military is a defense for that.. dang did it occur to you that we didnt start a single war. at all. it was all started by someone provoking america. and we more or less told them to 'knock it the fuck off' by the way im Enlisted in the Navy so i do know what im talking about.

Miscreants Exploit Google-Outed Windows XP Zero-Day 497

CWmike writes "A compromised website is serving an exploit of the bug in Windows' Help and Support Center, identified by a Google engineer last week, to hijack PCs running Windows XP. Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at antivirus vendor Sophos, declined to identify the site, saying only that it was dedicated to open source software. 'It's a classic drive-by attack,' said Cluley. The tactic was one of two that Microsoft said last week were the likely attack avenues. (The other was convincing users to open malicious e-mail messages.) The vulnerability was disclosed last Thursday by Google security engineer Tavis Ormandy, who also posted proof-of-concept attack code. Ormandy defended his decision to reveal the flaw only five days after reporting it to Microsoft. Cluley called Ormandy's action 'utterly irresponsible,' and in a blog post asked, 'Tavis Ormandy — are you pleased with yourself?'"

FBI's Facebook Monitoring Leads To Arrest In England 329

An anonymous reader writes "The BBC reports that armed police were called to a UK school earlier today after being advised of a potential threat by the FBI. The school stated that the FBI 'raised the alarm after Internet scanning software picked up a suspicious combination of words,' strongly implying that they are carrying out routine, automated surveillance of social networking sites. While in this case it does appear that there may have been a genuine threat, the story nonetheless raises significant privacy concerns."

Jim and his buddies(anyone with an easy or non-life threatening job) see this and they decide to crap out on their work. then it spreads to everywhere else and then nothing gets done.

Submission + - Unknown Asteroid almost impacted on Earth (spacefellowship.com)

xp65 writes: A previously undiscovered asteroid came within 14,000 km of Earth last week, and astronomers noticed it only 15 hours before closest approach. On Nov. 6 at around 16:30 EST a 7 meter asteroid, now called 2009 VA, came only about 2 Earth radii from impacting our home planet. This is the third-closest known non-impacting Earth approach on record for a cataloged asteroid. The asteroid was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey and was quickly identified by the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge MA as an object that would soon pass very close to the Earth. JPL’s Near-Earth Object Program Office also computed an orbit solution for this object, and determined that it was not headed for an impact.

Comment Emails. Will they work with Wave? (Score 1) 336

My problem is school teachers are constantly sending me stuff to do over holiday breaks and updates to what is happening in the class or at school. I am a part of my schools broadcasting unit and so emails are used quite heavily. so will you be able to send a 'wave' to say Shikari@wave.com? or something like that, so people who dont have wave can still send me something. because without that interoperability I wont wave as much. So by adding regular email support with wave will get people to ditch regular email websites and clients and just stick with Wave.

Submission + - The Truth Behind the Death of Linux on the Netbook (groklaw.net)

eldavojohn writes: "Groklaw brings us news of Microsoft holding the smoking gun in regards to the death of Linux on netbooks. You see, the question of Linux on netbooks in Taiwan was put forth to the Taiwan Trade Authority director who replied, 'In our association we operate as a consortium, like the open source consortium. They want to promote open source and Linux. But if you begin from the PC you are afraid of Microsoft. They try to go to the smart phone or PDA to start again.' It's simple, fear will keep them in line. PJ points out 'So next time you hear Microsoft bragging that people *prefer* their software to Linux on netbooks, you'll know better. If they really believed that, they'd let the market speak, on a level playing field. If I say my horse is faster than yours, and you says yours is faster, and we let our horses race around the track, that establishes the point. But if you shoot my horse, that leaves questions in the air. Is your horse *really* faster? If so, why shoot my horse?'"
