Microsoft Finally Ships $8,999 Surface Hub (eweek.com) 109

An anonymous reader quotes a report from eWeek: Surface Hub, originally slated to ship last September and later missing its January 2016 release deadline, is finally being delivered to Microsoft's business customers, announced Brian Hall, general manager of Microsoft Devices Marketing, on Friday. The touch-enabled Windows 10-powered device, available in a 55-inch and a massive 84-inch model, features built-in cameras, a microphone array, Bluetooth, WiFi, motion sensors and near-field communications (NFC). It runs Skype for Business, Office and OneNote, providing an integrated collaboration experience, and at least with the 84-inch model, an expansive canvas for interactive presentations and virtual meetings. With the Surface Hub, Microsoft is making an aggressive push into the conferencing and collaboration market currently dominated by Cisco, Citrix and Polycom. "I couldn't be more proud to announce this milestone for our team, customers, and partners. We can't wait to see what people, teams and businesses will do with Surface Hub," said Hall in a March 25 announcement.

I own a set of Uniden CLX485s. Basic base station with expandable handsets. I have the 485 which includes color screens. They come with a USB cable and a program that will pull contacts from Outlook with a little configuration (contacts with many numbers require mapping to home/office/mobile). Once imported you can set personal ringers and pictures for each one up to the storage limits. My only issue was the battery died and I never got around to ordering new batteries, then a woot deal came along and I got newer Uniden phones (that lack Outlook sync) So they are out there, but I don't know how much support they still get:

Security Hole In Windows 7 UAC 388

An anonymous reader writes "A prolific blogger is warning of a possible security hole in the latest beta version of Windows 7. Long Zheng has posted both a description and a proof of concept for an issue that could allow an attacker to skirt the User Account Control component in the new version of Windows. The problem, explains Zheng, is that UAC itself is controlled through system settings. This can allow an attacker to completely disable the protections without user notification. Zheng notes that the issue can be easily fixed by changing the UAC setting to notify users when Windows settings are altered, and that Microsoft could remedy the problem by prompting the user when the UAC setting is altered."

eldavojohn writes "The Wall Street Journal is reporting that MTV's Rock Band has gained the licenses to an undetermined number of songs. Details are scant, but it would be nice to see a whole game based on just the evolution of The Beatles' music. According to Reuters, this has been in the works for months. Hopefully I can finally hide my strained vocals to so many beautiful songs within the privacy of my home instead of drunk off my ass at a bar."

Since the site is down already - did any of the people who got to the site check out support for the broadcast flag?

If cable companies start using the protection with the didital flags would it render this machine useless? I know the TiVo does support it - after it was (un)intentionally turned on some poor user's Family Guy recording.

Down the road will we need to worry about not being able to use our toys if it doesn't fall into the industry's "supported device" list?
