Comment ClassFlow rocks! (Score 1) 96

Have you looked into ClassFlow? It is a cloud-based presentation software geared toward classroom whiteboards. Some key features include: 1) Presentations are stored online, so you can access from work or home 2) Interacts with student devices including iPads, Nexxus tablets, laptops, etc for interactive features including polls, question/answer, and more. 3) It's FREE (for now) 4) It meets your requirements for handwriting recognition and and the ability to create templates. I've been using SmartNotebook and ActivInspire (from Promethean) for years, and I think ClassFlow blows them both away.

New Dell Laptops Give Users a Literal Shock 383

An anonymous reader writes "According to CNET.co.uk, certain new Dell laptops with a brushed-aluminum finish are giving users more than they bargained for. 'We know this because several CNET staff were hit with an electrical charge while using Dell's new XPS M1530 — and we're not the only ones. Dell's forums are littered with user complaints about the shocking experiences they've had with some systems. The problem only seems to occur in Dell laptops that have a brushed-aluminum finish. These include the XPS M1330 and XPS M1530. It's caused by the two-pronged connection between the mains lead and the power adapter, which isn't earthed properly because of its lack of a third pin. The laptop therefore exhibits an electrical potential (voltage) between its exposed metal parts (the brushed aluminum wrist pad) and earth ground. Since there is no earth, the human body basically acts as a wire that can conduct electric current, hence the tingling, jolting sensation.'"

MS Promotion Site Flagged By MS Anti-Phishing 279

Stony Stevenson writes "Microsoft has launched a marketing campaign that lets any student at an Australian university buy the Ultimate edition of Office 2007, usual price $1,150, for only $75 — a discount of about 93%. But when students go to the promotion site, Microsoft Live OneCare pops up a warning that the site may be a phishing scam. The warning reads: 'Phishing filter has determined this might be a phishing website. We recommend that you do not give any of your information to such websites. Phishing websites impersonate trustworthy websites for the purpose of obtaining your personal or financial information.'"

In my previous life assisting in scuba classes, I saw many "tourists" training so they could dive on a vacation. Training in this sport can easily make the difference between life, death, or permanent injury. Training before you go on the trip is MUCH safer than taking one of those 1-hour crash courses.

Now, if this device is operated in shallow water (20-30 feet), there should be little risk of the bends (decompression sickness) because it would be hard to stay down there long enough with a single 88 cft tank. IF the device is positively bouyant (I couldn't find any such claim on their site), it would float to the surface if the battery went dead. Regardless of the illusion of safety/comfort this device may provide, it is no replacement for training, supervision, and experience.
