OK... so it goes:
Great Ring is Forged.
Sauron is confronted, cowed, returns to Numenor.
Numenor falls.
Sauron loses his form, becomes a big eye, wears his ring again.
Then comes the big battle with Elves and men.
Got it. I had the rings being forged after the downfall in my head. Thanks!
