Comment David Deutsch & the multiverse (Score 1) 145

The article fails to mention an interesting point that David Deutch of Oxford university, the formost authority of QC, has made; that a correctly functioning quantum computer would proove the existence of a multi-verse. Its easy to envisage. Imagine a QC in a lab with a bunch of white coats around it. Now imagine several "exact" copies of the same scenario (one for each quibit) - a bit like when you look at yourself in a mirrow with another mirror behind you. When the QC calculation starts, each universe splits, but after the calculation, they reconverge and EACH qc in each universe has the correct answer. Thats why its referred to as parallel computing. One computer in each paralel universe. Its also been calculated that qc may be build to factor numbers up to 10 raised to the power 500, which is the maximun number of universes in the multi-verse. Have a nice day!

I dont follow your logic. If light goes around in circles, it still takes time to travel and still carries the signal from the event of its original emission. Even if we see ourselves as a hydrogen condensation, which is what we were 13 billion years ago.

I dont think the Nazis were trying to mask anything with the camps. It was about efficiency. What would they otherwise have done? Shot them all in the head in the streets ort in their houses. Thats a lot of ammunition and a lot of mess. They just wanted to dispose of the posulation quickly and cheaply.

I dont see anything wrong with using brain tissue from any animal even a human. Afterall its the WHOLE of the brain that makes us what we are and gives us our soul. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Biotechnology is definately a big part of the future. Why not fuse neurons with silicon and get the best of both worlds. Neurons make for far better learning systems than solid technology. The brain learns because the neurons move around.

There was a time when I was in awe of Micrisoft. I envied and hated them at the same time. And now just 10 years on they are under assault from every angle and loosing the war on each front. 'They are waddeling like a duck next to a warp powered starship'. Who can say what really went wrong for them, but it just goes so show how fast the new technology industry is changing. Where will Google and Apple be in 10-15 years? They seem so invincible now but history will be their judge. The nature of the business is such that you cant see whats coming up behind you until its overtaken you. But that wont just be Microfoft's epitaph. BTW Crome sucks with this site.
