Journal tomhudson's Journal: Stats, and a new conspiracy theory 3

It didn't take too long.

Profanity Blacklist is stuck at 25 friends, up from 21 three days ago, for an increase of 4. Porn Whitelist, in the same 3 days, has gone from zero to 30 friends. Thanks to everyone for showing that people aren't afraid of the "f" word :-)

Now for the conspiracy theory:

I'm out shoveling the car (we had some snow last night), and I've looped Heidi and Toby's leashes over the fence post. Next thing I know, Heidi's loping down the street. Toby chewed through her leash.

I get Heidi back, and, just for the heck of it, let Tobys leash loose. Does he run away? No, he follows us to the house.

Moral of the story: Never trust the new guy.

Anyhow, he's starting to look a bit better, appearance-wise, as he fills in. He's actually growing, to the point where he might end up almost being a decent-sized dog. This is a good thing, seeing as I'm probably stuck with him for the next 10-15 years :-) I've got about a half-dozen offers from people who want to adopt him, but I know of other dogs that don't have a home and need one, so I'm trying to see what can be done for those other dogs instead (but I would have REALLY LIKED that other StBernard, or (definitely) another NEWFIE. Bear was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It's going to be a strange Christmas without him.

  • Tom, I just read your journal entry from the day after Bear died. It really thouched me. Like you, I had a very special connection with a dog of mine, and I miss her very much. I hope things are going OK for you.
    • Well, I seem to have inherited another dog, and I still have Heidi.

But Christmas is/was a special time for Bear and me. One year, we went to the local police station christmas eve, just to wish everyone who had to work that shift a merry christmas, and to let them know that people appreciate what the cops do.

The last few years, there's been one police officer who really loved Bear. She'd stop every time she saw us walking, and took pictures of him, etc. She had been raised with a Newfie and loved them.

      • Wow... Bear was really well known. My dog, Rasha (a wire-haired fox terrier), was only known among my friends and family, but she was still a good dog. We shared a very special bond, and it still makes me sad sometimes when I think of her. I actually had another dog, Sandy (a golden retriever), at the same time I had Rasha, so he helped me through it. He's a great dog too, and he has a huge heart and always wants to be with me. A year or so after Rasha died I got another dog, Midnight, who is an Austra
