The fine is https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/faqs-eng#an_link10$1,500.00 per individual, and $15,000.00 per business, per infraction. Note that this is an administrative penalty; there's no need for it to be heard in court. Hopefully, this will expedite the death of telemarketing.

Nope. It won't stop telemarketing. The biggest abusers will get busted, pay the fines and carry on. The industry will evolve like bacteria evolves by the use of anti-bacterial compounds.
As for me, I think most of the telemarketers have given up. When they call I try to keep them on the line as long as possible without authorizing them to take money out of my bank account. I'm sure I'm on many telemarketers black list.

Not even that. The Canadian version of the Do Not Call list has so many exceptions that it's basically an empty gesture. It's useless.
However, those who are exempted from obeying the DNCL are required to stop calling if you ask to be renewed from your list. Michael Geist (and his students) have set up a handy web site called iOptOut.ca [ioptout.ca] that will send your opt-out request to all the exempt organizations. Newspapers are exempt, bot one of my daughters found a way to keep them from calling back - ever.
One newspaper when they asked her if she wanted to subscribe, she said she was blind ....
Another one, she did a little-girl voice, and said "my mommy isn't here right now." "When will she be back." "In two weeks, and I'm alone with my little brother." "How old are you?" "11, and I'm starting to get scared."
Again, they didn't call back ...
Other times, she'll try to keep t
