Multimonitoring doesn't need special Windows drivers/software under Linux. I have an nVidia GeForce Ti4600 with the dual DVI outputs and multimonitoring works perfectly. I have tested all of the modes they mentioned in the article (dual view, span and clone) and I haven't had any problems with them under Linux.
I think you're right about the multimonitoring support under Linux games...I haven't seen any so far.
