Being conservative doesn't mean they believe in the free market: the belief only holds when the invisible hand is punching someone else in the nuts. If they're on the receiving end then suddenly the idea of government stepping in to protect therm becomes top of the legislative agenda.
This is the greatest and most accurate description of the Republican's view of the free market I've read.
