One doesn't have to be a Microsoft fanboy to notice that the iPod supports a relatively limited number of audio formats and is by design locked down to a single way to access your music (iTunes). Also, last I checked, it's impossible without the help of 3rd party software to (easily) recover music from your iPod in the event of your computer's hard drive failing. It's usually for some combination of these reasons that many audiophiles and tech-savvy folk avoid iPods.
