Comment Ghost Gun "kits" (Score 1) 228
This is all BULLSHIT! Having milled 2 - 80% aluminum lowers BY HAND NOT CNC let me tell anyone that thinks is like Ikea furniture "stick tab A into slot B" is out of their damned mind. It took me the better of 2 months (albeit only working on it an hour or so on the weekends) to mill the receiver on my "hobbyist" mill. Like somebody else commented why does anyone think that someone stupid enough to make their living stealing shit would have the where-with-all to be able to read a blue print, set up the machine, indicate in the part, select the correct endmill, know the correct feeds and speeds and depth of cut to take in order to make something when they can just steal it or buy it off the street like they already do. I'd love the opportunity to place a "kit" on any one of those assholes desks in D.C. and tell them "I'll come back at the end of the day to pick up the completed firearm". There are lots of smart ATTORNEYS up there but I bet not one of them couldn't even to win a bet. And from someone who has built a few 9mm kits with plastic receivers (creates something that rhymes with Block) it still takes attention to detail to get something that you would feel confident betting your life on. Don't get me started about 3D printing one. Yes it can be done and yes the files are available all over the internet. Again, unlike the media wants you to believe, you don't hit "print" and get a fully-working firearm out of the printer like you would a document. In my opinion as someone who has first-hand experience, It's WAY more difficult 3D printing one that A) won't blow up in your hand, and B) is anywhere close to reliable. I know, I've tried and I've been 3D printing for MANY years. And FINALLY, they bitch because it's "untraceable". BULLSHIT, go search ANY state or federal gun crime statistics and see just how many NON-GHOST GUNS are actually traceable back to the original, registered, user. It's not zero but it's close enough that it could shake hands with zero.
O.K. stepping down off my soapbox now.
