Software Developer jobs may rise in second half of 2026 when "normal" companies realize that that mass of poorly generated AI slop inside their Projects now getting real *users* is breaking, and maintaining that is more expensive than ever because no human had been involved in generating that thing.

Salaries for humans who *can* code will raise again.

Just having transitioned from high level scripting languages python/ruby/php style, the rust community should put some energy into making life easier for such people. Having &str and String, sometimes putting .to_string() there, sometimes not, is unnecessary cognitive overload.

Just one example of several.

Please make it a ->systems- language that fells like a scripting language. That would be a promise i hope for. Make the language easier, not more complex.Reduce cognitive overload where possible. Let rust have the power to elaborate on memory management but keep the defaults sane. No need for lifetimes and stuff like that for "mortal" programmers...

Comment Possible to play HORDE Mode without DRM? (Score 2) 60

I own the GOG Version of Quake: https://www.gog.com/game/quake_the_offering

Is it possible to simply put the .pak (or .wad? or .id3? or what its called) file of the new Horde Mode into the "classical" quake ?
Or is it possible to run it with http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/ or similar quake source port ?
Bethesda has tied his quake version to the Launcher, which is Online only and not really DRM free.

This fits very well for me. Being able to stream games via steam at home form my gaming PC (think of as a "portable steam link" device).
When on the road (a.k.a. in the train) i can play the "older" not GPU heavy games offline.
Once at home, the savegame is synced in the steam cloud automatically for me to continue anytime on my Gaming PC.

this sound great !

this device will be an INSTABUY for me (if the price will not be toooo astronomical which i doubt)

Comment It's about getting people to switch to Windows 10. (Score 1) 324

So, Microsoft is out of responsibility? The Victim is to blame? It is /my own/ fault if i still use Windows XP?

It seems to me like this whole WannaCry "Campaign" is about softly forcing users - by fear - to switch to Windows10+. All the newest built-in spy features are not available on the older Systems, at least not so comfortable preconfigured. Time to get more percentage of the population watched!

Oh, OSS Operating Systems will be the true last Boss for (elite) people thinking that way.
