Comment Humans Are Expensive (Score 1) 174

Which is more expensive in the long run, one day of human time or 1hr of electricity? This seems to ignore that we are mostly optimizing for people's time instead of the hardware. We have vastly more software than existed in the past. This isn't because that many more people write software but it is easier to write, maintain and distribute than ever before. Assembly and C might give great efficiency but it is terrible to manage and debug versus new languages. This is true even for veterans of those languages. Their time is better spent on new problems instead of optimizing old ones in many cases.

Doesn't it seem strange that a company that is dedicated to leasing/selling webservers is saying that every site need to be quick? It is sort of like having oil companies tell us that the world is doing just fine....Oh wait, nevermind.
