Comment There are more counties than just the USA (Score 1) 182

As always what is also missing in their thinking is what the rest of the world will do.

Other places will not want an USA only Law Enforcement (or USA vendor) decryption keys. So once the infrastructure is there they will demand their own keys as *replacement* for the USA keys.

So now there are phones out there without the USA key which can be imported. to the USA..

They can then try to forbid that in several ways. Most of the echnically effective ways will implicitly make international roaming impossible. And since other countries will implement similar methods that means people from the USA also won't be able to roam.abroad.

A very possible result is total fragmentation of the phone market and loss of trust and influence of Google and Apple. Especially apple will be in a tough spot since they provide the hardware themselves and will need to comply with everybody's conflicting demands.

Not really. A simple hypothesis for dark matter is that it is a sector that simply has no connection to the normal matter section except through gravity. Al these negative experiments just invalidate the current experimenter's pet theory but do not weaken the case for dark matter in any way since there was never any reason to assume that pet theory was true.

Not everybody hates it. I for one couldn't care less about the change of time, I don't even notice it. My alarm goes of an hour later or earlier and I just go about my day. It's just because the people for who it is a problem scream so loudly that you think the hate is universal.

But not changing is fine by by me if and only if we then go to permanent DST. I don't want to lose the extra light in the evening and don't care about having to go to work in the dark.

But under no circumstances do I want permanent winter time.

If you have another computer you can also do a PXE of a freedos image to which you copy the firmware and update program. Nowadays i first have to resize the standard floppy image though (since the firmwares are getting so damn big). Then leave that setup around and simply update your floppy image whenever you need to do a new firmware upgrade, select PXE boot in your boot setup and do the update..
