when i made a coil gun, i had the need for many disposable camera circuit boards, so i went to several camera development shops and found a few that gave me a bag of 20-50 used disposable cameras that they were going to recycle anyway. most of the batteries from them were still mostly charged.

Russian Firm Plans Commercial Space Station 133

astroengine writes "Buoyed by plans for commercial space taxis, a Russian company plans to build and launch a privately owned outpost in orbit for tourists, scientists and other paying visitors. RSC Energia, which designed and built the Russian modules of the International Space Station, is partnering with Russian commercial space startup Orbital Technologies to manufacture the new hub, currently known as Commercial Space Station."

this happened to me all the time. ITS CALLED STRESS!!! ffs how is this not a no brainer? forcing kids to memorize and regurgitate information, most of which nobody cares about, isn't stressful? i got psychosomaticly induced "sickness" and even though i knew it, i still never found out how to deal with it enough to function. the stress of knowing i have to go somewhere where nobody cares what i think or even asks me what i want to learn and judges me for not "learning" the way they dictate was, and is extremely daunting. i know what i like and want to do with my life, but apparently that not enough to decide what my education is. and people dumb enough to think that a wifi signal gives kids headaches in school but not anywhere else in the world is just more evidence that our educational system is broken.

here's yet another pascal's wager debunking: if u believe and im wrong, nothing lost, but if u don't believe and i'm right, eternal loss. first of all, i spend my entire conscious life following something that's not true, then all of that time effort and toil isn't "nothing lost". second if u only believe just to get a free pass into heaven and aren't a true believer, then wouldn't god know that ur faking it and ur not a true believer?

Position-Based Quantum Cryptography Proved Secure 45

KentuckyFC writes "Physicists have developed a new kind of quantum cryptography that uses position measurements to guarantee the security of a message. The technique is based on triangulation. Alice uses several transmitters to send messages to Bob who returns them immediately at the speed of light. If the return arrives within a certain time period, Alice can be certain that Bob is where he says he is. Physicists proved a few years ago that when the messages are purely classical this method is not secure because Eve can use any number of receivers to work out where Bob is and then use this information to trick Alice. However, the same physicists have now proved that the quantum version of the same position-based scheme is perfectly secure, essentially because Eve cannot easily measure the value of any qubits in the message. Alice and Bob go on to use the qubits to exchange a cryptographic key, a one-time pad, that they use to encrypt a message. The beauty of the technique is that a message encrypted in this way can be read only by somebody at a specific location, something that governments, banks, and the military, not to mention everybody else, may find useful."
