Journal tek_heretik's Journal: My computing experience
I started 'playing' with computers in '97 (33MHz Compaq running Windhose 95). Now I build computers (just built myself a Core 2 Duo E6700, Asus P5W DH Deluxe, 3 x 320GB Seagate SATA 3GB/s Raid 0, 2GB DDR2 800, 256MB GeForce 7600GS, etc, etc). I would love to run Linux on it (try many distros all the time, have an IDE drive installed for that) but can't find one to 'see' my Intel ICH7R hardware Raid, my AOpen FM56-PX voice/fax modem or my Mercury 7130 TV card (loads a module for it but it doesn't work). Windhose sucks, Linux is fragmented (community, standards and support) and Mac is just as proprietary as Microslop (even worse, you have to buy Apple hardware to run Mac OSwhatever). So until Linux matures or some commercial Linux desktop distros rise to the top, I am set adrift in cyberspace without an OS escapepod.
