How to safely photograph a sunset/the sun? (OT) (Score 1)

A corresponding question I've been wondering about for a while - what's a safe way to take a photograph of a sunset? Assuming looking at the sun is a bad thing, how should it be done? You need to be able to focus on foreground objects, so the sun's going to be in the viewfinder... Anyone? Is this even a concern? I'd love to hear ideas from other amateur photogs out there.
