How is it idiotic at all? Grab someoneâ(TM)s hand and forcibly place it on a scanner, and youâ(TM)re in. Now do the same with a password that isnâ(TM)t written down and is only stored in the personâ(TM)s head. Iâ(TM)d really love to hear how that can be forced. Even with torture, itâ(TM)s still optional whether the person caves and gives up the password.

Right, but thatâ(TM)s a pretty big security risk in that you could be forced to touch your device to log into a service, whereas a password thatâ(TM)s stored in your head canâ(TM)t be forced. I can see this as being far more convenient but thatâ(TM)s about it. And as far as lock-in goes, I donâ(TM)t see how this would work outside of devices with touchscreens or some form of biometric input. For most computers youâ(TM)d still have to type in a password.

Thar seems a little one-sided given that many of the best and most trustworthy apps and services are free (and often open-sourced). Yes, users should always be careful with ANY service -paid or otherwise - but to broadly and generically say that free services are essentially out to get you seems more like biased fear mongering and/or conspiracy theory than an actual warning based on evidence.
