Submission + - Man attacked in Ohio for providing Iran proxies (dailykos.com) 1

David Hume writes: electronicmaji is reporting on the Daily Kos that the individual known as ProtesterHelp (see also here) was attacked in Ohio for providing network security for Twitterers in Iran, setting up private networks to provide secure proxies, calling for media networks to remove the Iranians Twiterers information from their broadcast, and providing counter-intelligence services (including Basiji and Army Locations) within the Twitter community. ProtesterHelp was allegedly attacked by a group of men while walking to class in Ohio. The men, who appeared to ProtesterHelp to be either Iranian or Lebanese, drove up besides him and threw rocks at him while shouting, "Mousavi Fraud." ProtesterHelp further reported that his personal information has been leaked, and is currently being spread both online and inside of Iran amongst the government. For updates see #iranelection.

I would guess it would take all of this administration first term of office to clean the out and to create a far more honest and professional government service and not the current administration of the lobbyists, by the lobbyists and for the lobbyists.

RIGHT and if you believe they won't be the same as all the other political appointees through history past I've got some really nice beach front property to sell you in New Mexico. Granted you'll probably get a few good people but it will be a drop in the bucket to all those others who "donated" money.

Submission + - solar power pre-deployment to Afghanistan? 1

dAzED1 writes: "My little brother is heading for training at 29 Palms as a Navy Corpsman with FMF. He gets a [Sailor|Soldier|Marine]'s pay, so while he can't afford gadgets, I can; since he'll be in a LAR unit, I was thinking of getting him a small video camera, an IPod, and some sort of solar recharger. Whatever he takes he'll have to be able to carry in his pack, which is already going to be heavy with his medic gear.

Other than the weight issue, I am having problems finding a solar recharger that doesn't get wildly differing reviews as to basic quality. He'll have plenty of sun, few clouds, but it needs to be light, effective, and robust. With price not being much of a concern, what would you suggest for accomplishing this? Advice on a small robust video camera would be appreciated as well."

Quebec ISP To Terminate Subscribers Over Copyright 290

An anonymous reader writes "Quebecor, which owns Quebec's biggest ISP, has thrown in with Hollywood interests by arguing for the 'graduated response' approach that would kick off subscribers based on three allegations of infringement. The company told Canada's telecom regulator that net neutrality rules are not needed since content blocking has social benefits, including the potential for a three-strikes-and-you're-out policy."

Feed Wii hard drive rumor resurfaces, Nintendo calls it "pure speculation" (engadget.com)

Given the Wii's relatively paltry 512MB of internal storage (and nothing more than an SD card slot for expansion), it's hardly a surprise that rumors of an external hard drive add-on have been persisting for about as long as the console's been around. Now, despite being shot down by Nintendo just a few months ago, the rumors seem to have picked up again, with the speculation now pointing towards an announcement at E3 in July. Lending a smidgen of credence to this latest rumor is SNK's recent announcement that it would soon be bringing some of its Neo Geo titles to the Wii's Virtual Console, many of which would take up a heckuva lot more space (up to 330MB) than the current crop of old school games available on the service. Nintendo isn't buying that argument, however, telling gaming site Sprong that it's nothing more than "pure rumour and speculation and none of it is based in any fact or announcement." We somehow doubt that'll be enough to quell all the speculation though, which means we'll just have to wait 'till E3 to finally put this one to rest -- at least for a little while.

Journal Journal: Be careful of who you put in the trunk of your car 2

When a woman in Germany witnessed what she thought was a young boy being taken away in the boot [trunk for us 'merkins] of a car she alerted police to a child kidnapping.

But police found the "boy" was in fact Klaus "Shorty" Mueller, a dwarf mechanic.

He had climbed into the boot and asked to be driven around so he could track down the source of a rattling noise in the car.

Wii, DS Dominate February Hardware Sales 149

Gamasutra has the NPD numbers for last month, which shows a continuation of Nintendo's sales dominance. Overall the new consoles have again meant that industry sales were up, some 28% over last year's same-month figures. Hardware sales were up some 98%, with much of that performance attributable to the DS and Wii. Here's the breakdown: "Turning to hardware, the DS headed overall hardware sell-through with an impressive 485,000 units, followed by Nintendo's Wii, which sold 335,000 units despite continued issues with shortages. The Xbox 360 sold through a reasonable, if not spectacular 228,000 copies, and the PlayStation 3 slumped to a disappointing 127,000 units, despite no apparent shortages. Elsewhere, the PlayStation 2 moved a still impressive 295,000 at its relatively cheap current price, and the PlayStation Portable sold 176,000, markedly behind the DS. Finally, the various varieties of the Game Boy Advance sold a not unreasonable 136,000 units."
