Comment Live sports is the only reason to stay (Score 1) 82

I joined YouTubeTV when it was $35/mo, and have stayed on through all the price hikes to the current $72.99 mostly because of live sports. I live in WI and enjoy watching the Badgers, Bucks, Brewers, and Packers. But now with sports leagues splitting games off with different "premium" services, I'm about ready to drop them all. If I can live without 1/4 - 1/2 of the games due to leagues chasing every last dollar with piecemeal broadcasting agreements, it's not that hard to stop watching altogether.

Comment Band-aid that hurt in the long run (Score 1) 41

This is just a band-aid that will end up hurting everyone in the long run. Most Internet, phone, electric, and gas companies usually have state-sanctioned monopolies in the communities they serve. There is no incentive to compete on pricing when you are the only option. They'll add a bunch of new subscribers, be super profitable for a couple quarters, then complain to the state commissions that they need to increase rates because they added new equipment expecting the subscribers to keep pace and have a duty to provide profit to their shareholders.
