Now it's obvious that Chinese media is a complete farce. It's state controlled and blatantly so. But i also have to wonder if our western media isn't exactly the same but just smarter about it? Sure it isn't blatant like Pravda or China Daily but our western media still seems to reach for the same goals as Pravda and China Daily would. From getting people behind support of a war to excusing completely unjustifiable actions. Our media seems no better, just smarter and less blatant. Probably makes our media more dangerous than theirs to be honest.

Why is it obvious that the Chinese media is a complete farce? Have you ever read the chinese media? Or did you come to your conclusion based on what you read in the western media (which according to you, might also be a complete farce) Maybe the chinese media is slicker at propaganda than you think and their readers think that the western media is the real farce.

Gospodin's computation is correct. The IRR is the rate of interest that "present values" the future savings to the cost of investment of $38,400. If you compound the savings, you are in effect, computing the future value of the savings stream. In this case, it should be compared to the future value of the cost of investment of $38,400 (i.e. 38,400 + whatever interest you would have earned had you put this money in the bank).

Despite the fact that Facebook makes it easier for you to interact with your friends? Your refusal to take 2 minutes to sign up for facebook means that your friends have to take the extra effort (that is, if they bother) of emailing you pictures that they have already posted on facebook.

Your pointless objection achieves nothing beyond the creation of unnecessary hassle for your friends.

Wiretap Whistleblower, a Life in Limbo? 521

Newsweek has an interesting report on Thomas M. Tamm, the individual who blew the whistle on the Federal Government's warrantless wiretaps. The piece takes a look at some of the circumstances leading up to the disclosure and what has happened since. "After the raid, Justice Department prosecutors encouraged Tamm to plead guilty to a felony for disclosing classified information — an offer he refused. More recently, Agent Lawless, a former prosecutor from Tennessee, has been methodically tracking down Tamm's friends and former colleagues. The agent and a partner have asked questions about Tamm's associates and political meetings he might have attended, apparently looking for clues about his motivations for going to the press, according to three of those interviewed."

Chicken Kickers, the issues you mentioned are "controversial" only because those still in power at the moment made it so, by continuing the old British policy of "divide and conquer", by their racially divisive rhetoric, by propagating the myth that Malays have to depend on handouts to hold their own in their own nation. These are the very people who should be charged with sedition. As a fellow Malaysian (Chinese), I want my children to grow up in a country where they feel proud to be Malaysians first (and Chinese a distant second), where they do not have to resort to going overseas to get a halfway decent education, where those in power are there by virtue of their competence (and not due to their kris waving abilities). Personally, I feel that change, is long overdue. An entire generation has been lost (whether due to brain drain, or our half baked education system) due to the government's incompetence. Can we lose one more?

Fish Pedicures 3

A northern Virginia spa is making big waves by offering fish pedicures. John Ho and Yvonne Le have been offering the treatments for four months in their salon, Yvonne Hair and Nails. Customers place their feet in tanks of water where tiny carp eat the dead skin. The couple says over 5,000 people have had the skin eaten off their feet so far and John hopes to start a chain of Doctor Fish Massage franchises and is evaluating a full-body fish treatment. I think Mr. Ho is on to something here. It shouldn't be that hard to teach my lab to give French manicures, she chews on her own nails all the time.
