His reality distortion field was so strong that it's waves still last to this day. All kidding aside, I recall stuff sometimes did go wrong 15 minutes or so before the demo. That's not entirely the same though. Jobs was quite relentless, "fix it or your fired" he said, or something to that effect. And I bet he rehearsed a lot. That dude always wanted everything to be perfect. And products back then being less connected and less intelligent might also help.

You've got a good point there in that news isn't real life. This reminds me of this Venn diagram, where the small loud extremes are at the left and right edges of the diagram, and the large majority of normal people are in the middle, who often just go about their usual day. I do not live in America, so all I know is from news; various different news outlets, but still.. it's just news. I'll take your 'on the ground' experience to heart and hope that my world view is just simply biased. I also take into account that when people are living in a situation, that situation becomes their baseline normal. So who is to say.. I don't know.. I hope you are right.

Living in a democracy isn't something foreign to me. We have a rich political spectrum in the country I live in. Normally I would agree with you that when something big happens, people suddenly band together. I get that. But from the sidelines, it seems Amarica is so deeply divided (in civil strive even) that the last big thing (or things) was the same thing people got even more divided over. And I mean divided with a pure hatred towards each other. Seemingly otherwise normal people calling for murder, terrorist acts, or burning the city down. We don't have that here. It's like, democracy without social cohesion. Of course I could be wrong, as I am not from the US. But I would wish you all a less toxic arena to exercise political debate in.

As an outsider, the threads under this post comes across as two overweight low IQ women fighting in the middle of the street, both ending up half naked rolling in the cold wet mud, captured on video for all of the internet to see. Sure you feel like you've won by pulling off the other person's wig, but you both just look dumb for the rest of the world to see. Amaricans, do continue fighting each other and devaluing yourself. God forbid you might actually see eye to eye, lock arms, and actually go fight corruption together instead of being played by various narratives.

An even more centralized internet.. Somehow this feels more and more like web servers are just clients that required a central licensing server in order to operate. They cannot function on their own. They need to ping the mother server in a timely fasion, or else they time out. Something doesn't feel right about this. Feels like sacrificing freedom over security. Which is not bad by itself perse. It's a ballance, I guess. But where do you think this line should be drawn? Why not do 7 days?

"Lab leak theory" is not the same as "Lab leak theory + developed as a bio weapon". This is like saying "Elon Musk has never launched a rocket into space, personally by hand". Adding qualifiers can make statements factually false, while obfuscating / omitting potentially true statements.
