Obviously you don't do any real audio work, otherwise you'd never use the built in sound in port on any computer.
Apple isn't cutting corners, this is the CONSUMER version of it's portable line. It's not supposed to be a professional computer.
However, with the new firewire ports and some of the ultra high fidelity firewire audio capture devices, and USB midi devices, you almost could get away with using an iBook for professional audio. However, if you are an audio professional, Apple has a computer for you: a Powerbook with a PC card slot, Firewire, USB and Audio In. Don't whine about iBooks just because you're cheap.
