Submission + - SCO v. IBM Is Officially Reopened (groklaw.net)

stoilis writes: Groklaw reports that the SCO vs IBM case is officially reopenened: "The thing that makes predictions a bit murky is that there are some other motions, aside from the summary judgment motions, that were also not officially decided before SCO filed for bankruptcy that could, in SCO's perfect world, reopen certain matters. I believe they would have been denied, if the prior judge had had time to rule on them. Now? I don't know.".

Submission + - Chicken vaccines combine to produce deadly virus (wired.com)

stoilis writes: "From the Wired article: "Vaccines aren’t supposed to cause disease. But that appears to be what’s happening on Australian farms. Scientists have found that two virus strains used to vaccinate chickens there may have recombined to form a virus that is sickening and killing the animals."
"This shows that recombination of such strains can happen and people need to think about it," says Glenn Browning, a veterinary microbiologist at the University of Melbourne, Parkville, in Australia and one of the co-authors on the paper."

Submission + - 'Six crimes a day' solved by CCTV in London (bbc.co.uk)

stoilis writes: "CCTV cameras across London help solve almost six crimes a day, the Metropolitan Police (Met) has said. According to the article, "the number of suspects who were identified using the cameras went up from 1,970 in 2009 to 2,512 this year. The rise in the number of criminals caught also raises public confidence and counters bad publicity for CCTV"."

Submission + - Astronomers find huge hole in the Universe

realwx writes: "Astronomers are surprised by a recent discovery of a space hole that is nearly a billion light years across. "Not only has no one ever found a void this big, but we never even expected to find one this size," said researcher Lawrence Rudnick of the University of Minnesota. Rudnick's colleague Liliya R. Williams also had not anticipated this finding. "What we've found is not normal, based on either observational studies or on computer simulations of the large-scale evolution of the universe," said Williams, also of the University of Minnesota.""

Comment Not all keys work for all versions of windows (Score 1) 601

Keep in mind that the key changing method doesn't always work, I already tried it for the exact same reason.

There appears to be more than one version of Windows XP Pro. There is "Retail" and "OEM". There are situations where keys from one product version doesn't work on others.

For the legitimate key to work you need to make sure that your cracked version of windows will be able to use the new key, orelse you may end up with a useless new version of windows.

I contacted Microsoft's support for an official answer on the issue. They informed me there are in fact three versions of Windows XP Pro and one cannot use keys from one on another.

I actually returned my new legitimate version of windows and keep using the pirated one since I am too bored to format my PC right now...
