Some random googling for "average daily electric usage" seems to indicate that Americans use about 20-30 kWh per day. So a 10 kWh battery will only over 1/2 to a 1/3 of day. As a power backup this seems pretty flimsy. People would have to buy 2 or 3 of these for a single day power backup, which seems a little crazy. Maybe in combination with solar/wind? I dunno, a generator seems more practical, you can just go buy more gas for it. Maybe if my applianced knew when they are running on battery power and could auto adjust their consumption. Otherwise, I am just going to find out about a major power outage a few hours after everyone else. Using it for cheeper electricity is a little funny too. Currently, electricity is already cheep. Even if it cut my electricity bill in half, its not really all that much per month. It's like cutting my bathroom tissue costs in half, not really going to make me a rich man.

My question to Slashdot is, whats the best strategy for enjoying this classic show? Looking at the wikipedia page on Dr. who, I see there are 11 Doctors, so is hard to pick a good starting point. If it was just up to me, I would start watching from the very beginning. But I know my wife would not watch a show that dated, though she is a science fiction fan herself and enjoyed a few seasons of Tourchwood. So where do I start? Not using the new JavaScript engine in UIWebView (the component used to render web like content) is a good thing in my eyes. It is pretty hard to debug JavaScript apps in UIWebView, since you don't have things like a DOM inspector or a JavaScript debugger. By keeping the engine the same, they have guaranteed that the existing UIWebView based apps will continue to function after the upgrade to 4.3. Imagine if every app making heavy use of UIWebView had subtle errors after the upgrade... I *would* like to see the faster engine available to UIWebView, but in the mean time, I will take compatibility.

you can turn a tree off, simply cut it down and use the wood. wood is lot more useful to me then liquid CO2.

However, when I recently spotted a site that vaguely extols freshness, I began to wonder how much the freshness of even the whole beans themselves affects quality. Normally I thought the whole beans would retain the quality far longer due to less surface area exposed to air, but clearly there still must be a decline; worse yet, it is difficult to gauge that decline since the sellers usually do not advertise the age of the beans. For this reason, I would like to throw out two questions to you, Slashdot readers, about our favorite beverage. 1) what is your preferred coffee-making method, and how does it compare to other methods you tried? 2) What are your favorite beans? Specifically, not just the varietal, but also the source and the age (if known).
