Where did you get the idea that they're leeks???? I grew up in Walla Walla, and I've never heard them referred to as leeks. I even worked at the Walla Walla Sweet ONION Festival one year. I'd be surprised if the farmers got the name wrong. Every single farm in Walla Walla that grows onions has stands by the highway with "Walla Walla Sweet ONIONS" painted on the sides. Their offical website http://sweetonions.org/ repeatedly calls them "onions."
I'm flabbergasted that you would allege that they're actually Walla Walla Sweet Leeks, though I'll be even more flabbergasted if you prove to me that they're leeks and that I was deceived throughout my childhood.
