I think the future of mass storage is in companies like SanDisk. Sure, most people are familiar with them in more consumer-oriented environments such as flash cards for your digital camera, but a little known secret is that they also build massive RAID's out of arrays of those flash cards using a dual fiber gigabit backplane for nanosecond latency and non-volatility. Almost every bank in the country has one of these bad-boys. Right now they're about 10G for a gig, but that's sure to drop. :-)

heh, and no, I'm not a Salesman for SanDisk

As for Word 3.0 files not being readable in the future, I have one word: ASCII.
