I was about to post the same sentiment. Exploiting monopoly status to implement slow as hell upload speeds even on higher end plans and punative monthly caps. 2 professional adults working from home and 2 kids schooling from home. Better not watch any TV this month.... 5G and LEO satellite will finally break them. F Comcast.

Comment When? (Score 1) 175

Every week it seems, we hear of some revolutionary new battery or solar effeciency breakthrough on /., yet the commercially available products are nowhere near. When can we buy our solar charged, long lasting, battery powered flying cars? Maybe these articles should use verbiage like "theoretically possible" Yes, efficiency has improved, but nowhere near the extreme rates promised by these revolutionary breakthroughs. Why is reality so far from the news bites?

It's called capitalism. Supply and demand. That's America. Normal people move when they can't find work where they are. It happened in a massive way in the 2008 recession. There are 1 bedroom apartments starting at $700/mo in Detroit's city center - within walking distance from startup incubators, #20 on the Global Fortune 500, General Motors, and the nations 3rd largest mortgage originator, Quicken Loans just to name a few. Maybe try Dearborn, MI I think Ford employs a few people too. There is even cheaper housing in suburban (2br home for $875/mo) and rural areas ($550/mo). Take your pick. There are lots of places with cheap real estate and good jobs. It's unfortunate that homeless people are spoiled with the beautiful climate and endless handouts in California.

Comment Sounds good in theory (Score 2) 128

Magnuson-Moss has been thrown around by car tuning enthusiasts since it was passed in 1975. It sounds good in theory. The reality is that you are an individual with limited resources going up against a multi-billion dollar global entity with a large team of full-time legal resources. It costs them nothing to deny your warranty claim until you win in court. How much time and money are you going to risk to get your $400 - $800 phone replaced? If you happen to be a professional Lemon Law lawyer, then I guess it's worth it to you to make a point. For the rest of us, you just buy a new phone from a different manufacturer.
