Journal stemceller's Journal: Cardiac team in stem-cell tests

21 June 2007, 23:44 GMT 00:44 UK BBC News reports British doctors are conducting a clinical trial to determine the effectiveness of a patient's own bone marrow stem cells in treating damaged heart muscle from a heart attack: "Pioneering research to test if stem cells can repair heart muscle damage by a heart attack is beginning in the UK. Sixty patients have volunteered to take part and will be injected with their own bone marrow stem cells during routine coronary bypass surgery. The Bristol surgeons say this should reduce scarring in the heart, thereby improving its pumping action and guard against future heart complications."
