I'm amazed at all the people stroking this guy's ego. I personally have been in a couple situations were a "crucial" person left. At one company in particular, we lost two important techs within three months. Each one throught the same thing: If I leave, the company is finished.
In each case, the company wasn't finished. Either someone (or a multiple people) stepped up and took over some of those jobs, or the company merely hired a consultant or two to share the load.
Remember this: In business, change happens. I've worked with some talented people, however in the end none of them were indispencable.
