From the caption of Fig. 3 in the article (emphasis added):
The disc diameter of 12 centimeters is equivalent to those of CD and DVD.
The key word is not "comparable" but "equivalent".
The best book on programming for the layman is "Alice in Wonderland"; but that's because it's the best book on anything for the layman.
