You can play with devices if you want, it's just one kernel-mode driver to write and away you go. tl;dr the hood isn't welded shut, it's just locked and you need the administrators key.

THIS! I got taught some fun bits and pieces in fourth grade (about 10 years old) like Pythagoras' theorem.
