Comment Call for Standards, not Open Source (Score 3, Insightful) 170

What they are calling for is a set of standards (i.e. What is a Medical Record?), not an open source solution. Once they can define exactly what comprises a medical record and standardize it (ANSI, HL7, etc.), the open source community usually takes care of itself.

Poor understanding of IT jargon by a politician's office...what a shock...

Digg Backs Down On DiggBar 180

Barence writes "Social news website Digg.com has made key changes to its recently introduced DiggBar. The browser add-on had been much criticised for its use of frames to 'host' third-party websites within the digg.com domain using an obfuscating short URL, thereby boosting its own traffic figures to the detriment of those third parties. After many major sites ran negative articles on the DiggBar, and even changed their code to block it, Digg has relented and announced two changes to ease concerns."

Comment Everyone missed the scariest part (Score 1) 101

The scariest part of that article is not what coding we will be doing in ten years, it's the comment from the high-level executives from the corporation. They essentially wanted to get rid of the democratically elected government:

I once had to listen to several high-level executives (for a previous company that shall remain nameless) waiting for the private corporate jet complain how inefficient it was that the country was run by democratically elected politicians as "they just didn't understand business".
