Submission + - Anti-Game Crusader Jack Thompson to be Disbarred

spielermacher writes: GamePolitics is reporting that Jack Thompson — the lawyer every gamer loves to hate — has apparently lost his court case and is facing disbarment. The Referee in the case has gone beyond the Florida Bar's request for a 10 year disbarment and is recommending a lifetime ban. From the Final Report issued by the court:

"...the Respondent has demonstrated a pattern of conduct to strike out harshly, extensively, repeatedly and willfully to simply try to bring as much difficulty, distraction and anguish to those he considers in opposition to his causes. He does not proceed within the guidelines of appropriate professional behavior..."

All I can say is that it's about time.

Submission + - Senators Question Border Laptop Searches

spielermacher writes: Two Senators are challenging the US Customs Service's regular search of electronic devices owned by US citizens at border crossings. It sounds like the Customs Service in a targeted fashion against profiled travelers. From the article:

Two witnesses at a hearing before the subcommittee Wednesday described widespread CBP searches of electronic devices at borders, with data copies and devices sometimes confiscated for weeks. One Muslim executive at a U.S. tech vendor has been subjected to border interrogations at least eight times since early 2007, said Farhana Khera, president and executive director of Muslim Advocates.
I think I'll still keep TrueCrypt on the laptop, but it's a good sign people are starting to complain about this.

The question is, if they develop an MMO, are they hiring all new guys to do it, or are some of the experienced TES devs working on it? Does this mean no TES:V?"
Dunno about TES:V, but it appears that an all new team is being put together by them to make MMOs. ZenMax Media (parent company of Bethesda Softworks) has set up a new studio called ZeniMax Online Studios, and according to their website (zenimaxonline.com) they are working on MMOs. It's headed by Matt Firor, one of the guys from Mythic (made DAOC back in the day).
