Every time I hear this is, it is from someone that only speaks English.
Trust me that English is by far the easiest, and I speak 6 languages (none well maybe).
Latin based languages are much more complicated because you have deference or politeness (which does not even exist in English), plus all the verb tenses, then masculine/feminine. And on masculine/feminine they are different in Italian/French/Spanish/Portuguese, when you think you got it, you can quickly sound like foreigner with one mistake.
Japanese and German have many levels of deference as well.
Old joke: What do you call someone who speaks 3 languages? Trilingual. 2 languages? Bilingual. One language: American.
