That's about what I remember from a TV show about the LHC a while ago; roughly about 1 m in diameter (what's that in foot, 10 square feet?), 7m (23 feet) long. If the beam is directed into it, it heats up to about 800 degrees C (~1700 degrees F according to Google) in an instant.

I can picture the scientist going "Operation room, the pizza's a bit stale, and the coffee machine blew up. Would you mind rerouting the beam once more?"

Somewhat related to this, the biggest german women's magazine announced a couple days ago that they will no longer hire professional models because they are too thin: Article at The Guardian. Money quote: "For years we've had to use Photoshop to fatten the girls up. Especially their thighs, and decolletage. But this is disturbing and perverse and what has it got to do with our real reader?"

Some animals seem to have "Extra Sensory Perception" (the cat Oscar, for example, seems to be able to predict the impending death of terminally ill patients (Oscar_(cat))), although I am more inclined to the opinion that these animals are paying attention to (for them) quite obvious things which we just have not identified yet.

Being in a relationship is not easy, more than half of all first marriages fail in this country. That statistic doesn't improve if you spend most of your time reading your favorite website and not tending to the needs of your family. Instead of asking me to help fix your relationship maybe you should try playing with your kids, talking to your wife, and not staring at a computer screen all day. You should realize that the help link doesn't provide help with your life. It's mostly for getting passwords and stuff.
