Because Mono is basically a free, open-source implementation of Microsoft's .NET framework, some developers feared that Microsoft would eventually launch a patent war that could harm many in the open-source community. But there are some good reasons for using Mono, developer David Bolton argues in a new blog posting. Chief among them is MonoDevelop, which he claims is an excellent IDE; it's cross-platform abilities; and its utility as a game-development platform. That might not ease everybody's concerns (and some people really don't like how Xamarin has basically commercialized Mono as an iOS/Android development platform), but it's maybe enough for some people to take another look at the platform.

Microsoft Announces Windows For Raspberry Pi 2 307

This release of Windows 10 will be free for the maker community through the Windows Developer Program for IoT. With an official partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Microsoft is bringing development tools, services and ecosystem to the Raspberry Pi community. - Make sure the everyone understands and agrees with the big picture.
- Make sure the people are invested in the end result. (this with the point above says that outsourcing is not the best solution)
- Be consistent, thorough and write high quality software. Coding guidelines and a clear process that everyone understands and follows will help with this.
- Understand that the idea is more important than the implementation, but a poor implementation can ruin a great idea.

'The point is that the true cost is in the total cost of ownership and exploitation, not just the license cost.' Why on earth would people want to jam their fingers into their screens? If it is to have some gesture based control, a much better solution is a decent trackpad, which in effect works as a proxy for the screen but in a more ergonomic location.
