Test for "Obvious" Patents Questioned 172

bulled writes "News.com is running a story about a case coming before the US Supreme Court on testing new patents for 'obviousness'. The decision has potential to significantly impact the High Tech industry." From the article: "Several Silicon Valley heavyweights, including Intel and Cisco Systems, have submitted supporting briefs that urge the Supreme Court to revise an earlier ruling. That ruling, they claim, has helped make it easier to obtain patents on seemingly 'obvious' combinations of pre-existing inventions."

Although this seems like a mistake, Dell may actually be able to encourage the market on cheaper smart phones. The article, if you read, went into absolutely no detail about the phone but one can assume it is a smartphone. With competitive forces like Dell (which seems to be all dell is good at as of late) Treo and Blackberry are going to have a run for their money. I am all for more choices and better competition in this market, but to whom will they offer their services will be the next question. Will it be a brand specific deal, or will they provide to the masses and make it available to all major carriers?

Journal Journal: More Tech News!

I have recently added a new section to my website pholower.com. If you have any slashdot submissions that get rejected but feel they are newsworthy, please email them to me and I will post them in the techblog section of my site. There are a lot of good, and important stories that get rejected here at slashdot, why shouldn't you be able to read them too?

Journal Journal: The mini Slashdot effect

I tried something today that proves how many people really have nother better to do when they are on slashdot.

In my signature, I put the link to my homepage. Now since this is just a personal site. I don't intend on having more than a handful of people go to my site in a day. But in just 5 hours, my signature link brought in over 700 page hits, out of that 236 unique visitors from all over the world.

Journal Journal: The Slashdot Backlash

It has occured to me after viewing a few articles release in the past couple of days that it does not matter what the content of the reply is, if you do it quickly, it will be modded up.

This seems to be a rather bad way of going about things. If the moderating system is to get any better, they should hold of on modding new posts for 10 minutes, this is when the big flood of comments are made.
