Eight PHP IDEs Compared 206

snydeq writes "InfoWorld's Rick Grehen provides an in-depth comparative review of eight PHP IDEs: ActiveState's Komodo IDE, CodeLobster PHP Edition, Eclipse PHP Development Tools (PDT), MPSoftware's phpDesigner, NetBeans IDE for PHP, NuSphere's PhpED, WaterProof's PHPEdit, and Zend Studio. 'All of these PHP toolkits offer strong support for the other languages and environments (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL database) that a PHP developer encounters. The key differences we discovered were in the tools they provide (HTML inspector, SQL management system) for various tasks, the quality of their documentation, and general ease-of-use,' Grehen writes.'"

Submission + - MythTV 0.22 Released

uyguremre writes: After a little over a year and a half in the making, the developers of MythTV announced that MythTV 0.22 is now available. There have been a lot of large changes since 0.21, including a port from Qt v3 to Qt v4 and a major UI rewrite to convert to MythTV's new MythUI user interface libary.
As always, this release adds support for some new hardware, in this case VDPAU video acceleration, DVB-S2, and the Hauppauge HD-PVR. The MythUI toolkit allows themes much greater control over the user interface and today we're announcing a competition to design new themes for MythTV. With the new release comes a theming competition too.
For a more complete list of changes and new features, read the Release Notes on the wiki.

Amen. I've lived in Syracuse all my life, and and the worst time I've ever had driving in snow has been in Ohio and Pennsylvania. I once drove to Columbus 3 days after a snowstorm, the highways were a sheet of washborard ice for a good 30 miles into town and after getting off the highway the world was slush over frozen Ice, and the storm was only like 10 inches. When I arrived at my destination, I jokingly asked "what are they waiting for it to melt?" and was kind of frightened by the answer of yes. The Syracuse airport is typically closed for about 24 hours total each winter and rarely for more than an hour at a time (the airport being home to the world's largest snowplow helps). During northeast storms, planes are routinely diverted to Syracuse when other airports close. And if you're flying out, you never have to be concerned with the local weather, it's always the airport at the other end of the trip that you need to worry about.

Here Comes iPhone Nano, But Not In the US 177

jehovajerieh writes to us in the time-honored tradition of rampant Apple speculation, pointing to an article over on IBTimes suggesting that while the iPhone Nano may be on the way, the US might not be the first to experience this gadget bliss. "Despite limited information in the supplier channels and typical secrecy with new Apple products, insiders have confirmed that the iPhone nano is not yet in the testing labs at AT&T, Marshal says, leading him to believe that the launch will most likely be with a non-US carrier. 'Obviously, the best-case scenario here would be a China launch (~600mil+ wireless subscribers total in the country), but we have no definitive knowledge of this and are working on identifying the [locale] of launch and other pertinent details,' he said."

Feed George Foreman busts out the iGrill... for reals (engadget.com)

The clever folks at ThinkGeek may have been him to the punch with their April Fool's Day edition iGrill, but it seems that George Foreman isn't one to let a good brand go unused, trotting out his own iGrill that's very much real. Unlike ThinkGeek's USB-powered faux device, George Foreman's iGrill is a full-fledged indoor/outdoor BBQ, with a 200 square inch nonstick grilling surface and an adjustable temperature control probe. Garnering it the "i" designation is the BBQ's integrated 10W speaker system and USB port/dock, which will accommodate your iPod or other MP3 player to let you pump out some tunes as you grill. If that sounds like your idea of an "instant party," you can get your iGrill now for $150.
