This week I quit with the open source project linksos who's goal it was to write a modern OS.
We kinda of failed in doing so. Well not 100% because there were some nice OS designs established that I will be sure to use once I have completed this course. Things like a microkernel with servers running on top of them. It would have had similarities to the GNU/Hurd and Beos kernel's. However pretty much very light weight. An ability was to dynacly enable a server (for instance networking) to run in user or kernel space.
I quit the project because I noticed that no one else was actually doing anything except sign up and never respond emails. Well that not the whole reason it's also because as the design of the OS had been lay-ed out and it was time to start coding no one was doing it. I wanted to do something but I don't have the skills to code an OS. So after some hard thinking I quit. I have done everything in my capabilities in this OS.
Another reason is that lately I just don't have time for such projects. I'm very busy in thinking of setting up my own company. Learning programming and much more.
Well I did learn a lot during the design stage of Linksos. I mean how operating systems work and how cvs and sourceforge works even ssh and using webportals like phpnuke.
Someday I will try and build my own OS,
