Submission + - New MIT camera takes 3D photos in the dark

smf28 writes: In a recent research paper published in Science, a team of researchers at MIT describe a new imaging technique that produce three-dimensional photos with only a single photon per pixel, using essentially one-hundredth the light of the best existing imaging technologies. The researchers say the technology could have a wide variety of low-light imaging applications from military to biological use. The research was also featured on the BBC and Scientific American for those without a subscription to Science.

smf28 writes: "Dheera Venkatraman has also created a giant DIY LED display featuring 36 blue Luxeons in a 6x6 array on the windows of Simmons Hall, an undergraduate dormitory at MIT famous (or infamous, if you wish) for its design. Recent uses included welcoming students in September, Pirate Day, and others."
