Comment Low Power Solution (Score 0) 29

Why is speed always brought up in microcontrollers? Power, connectivity, then speed was be a nice metric order to deliver on. Of course wifi is a power hog, and BT is range limited. In most applications, these processors have plenty of speed to spare. It would be great to have a lorad option for a change, to allow for feasible battery/portability solutions.

Comment Hypercard (Score 1) 1154

The computing world needs an easy to use - quick and not so dirty gui to automate so many things that just takes too much time. Too much hassle with the incompatible, incomplete gui systems for the programming languages out there. Hypercard fit the bill, and its amazing how nothing better has come along since. Thanks Steve Jobs for killing what was one of the simplest programming innovations in history.

An open source version for Linux would be of great benefit, along with LESS desktop windowing choices.

State Senator Caught Looking At Porn On Senate Floor 574

Everyone knows how boring a debate on a controversial abortion bill can get on the Senate floor. So it's no wonder that Florida State Sen. Mike Bennett took the time to look at a little porn and a video of a dog running out of the water and shaking itself off. From the article: "Ironically, as Bennett is viewing the material, you can hear a Senator Dan Gelber's voice in the background debating a controversial abortion bill. 'I'm against this bill,' said Gelber, 'because it disrespects too many women in the state of Florida.' Bennett defended his actions, telling Sunshine State News it was an email sent to him by a woman 'who happens to be a former court administrator.'"

Is the Line-in Jack On the Verge of Extinction? 411

SlashD0tter writes "Many older sound cards were shipped with line-out, microphone-in, and a line-in jacks. For years I've used such a line-in jack on an old Windows 2000 dinosaur desktop that I bought in 2000 (600 Mhz PIII) to capture the stereo audio signal from an old Technics receiver. I've used this arrangement to recover the audio from a slew of old vinyl LPs and even a few cassettes using some simple audio manipulating software from a small shop in Australia. I've noticed only recently, unfortunately, that all of the four laptops I've bought since then have omitted a line-in jack, forcing me to continue keeping this old desktop on life support. I've looked around for USB sound cards that include a line-in jack, but I haven't been too impressed by the selection. Is the line-in jack doomed to extinction, possibly due to lobbying from vested interests, or are there better thinking-outside-the-box alternatives available?"

Comment Thank You M$ (Score 1) 470

If anyone *REALLY* wants to know what code belongs to M$ is the Linux community. I would feel violated knowing M$ has any of their garbage running on my system.

So PLEASE M$ tell us...... we want to get rid of your viruses--uh code much more than you do.

I think my system is "clean" because everything just works!
