So - yeah. From my own perspective its obvious how much of an impact the kids are having on people. Specifically people who have crept into mission critical roles that require a LOT of collaboration time.
Suddenly they cant collaborate anymore. Or they can but in odd shifts.
You guys have to remember: not all tech work is "take this work list and work through it until its done" A LOT of it involves design discussions, re-design discussions, etc etc. A lot of developers are also involved in these live communication streams.
So now - things that used to take 3 minutes over chat, video phone, or with a desk visit are taking - SOMETIMES - multiple days just because of the extra context switching and odd hours. Yes -im talking about you person with kids. I know there isnt anything you can do about it - but its STILL impacting the organization you work in.
On my team - the people who suddenly have messed up hours are being relegated to work that we can assign in lists and they can "sit and do" - the problem is now I have to spend more time and money on grooming that work - like im outsourcing it to Bangalore.... thats a lot of work. Previously we could outline what we want - and rely on real-time communications to work through any gaps.
