The thing about this 'gift' is that not everyone else is grateful for it. Japanese and European agencies are both independantly researching thier own GPS system. See although the Gov't stopped inducing error into the signal, the guys in blue uniforms still run the ground portion of the system. All those sat controllers are AF personel, and at any time the USAF can pull the plug completely. Incidentally, that is a contributing factor in the FAA not allowing GPS as a PRIMARY source of navigation on aircraft. They don't trust the military that much either.
