"They deserve it" ??? I don't think so. I think you're forgetting that it is a voluntary thing. Nothing is requiring you to lend your CPU time to them.
I think the people who run the fake clients have lost the sense of purpose behind this whole thing. It's to try and do something no one has ever done before, showing the government how encryption is something that can't be treated like nuclear technologies (I'm talking about the US government's ban on exporting high-level encryption software).
Just my $0.02 anyway...
