I live in a common car centric city like most of North America. I had to walk 10 km down a 5 lane stroad, where there's absolutely no trees near the sidewalk that's right beside a giant heating pad (the asphalt) beside cars that are also emitting heat, more heat cause they probably have the A/C on. This was on a day where we hit a new all time high temperature record. The only thing I had to rest in shade was a concrete electrical poles. I hate how car centric everything is, a 2 hour walk would have been a 10 min drive. Everything is spread out cause there's giant parking lots everywhere. Which doesn't matter for someone with a car, but for a person walking it adds a huge amount of time. Not to mention traffic lights and everything is again tailored for cars. A car sitting at a traffic light for a minute may not matter, but for a person hitting a traffic light and waiting a minute for it to change adds a huge amount of time as you'll probably be hitting them all, as again the timer for the traffic light is designed and suited for cars.
