Yes, this. So much this. Ray as Tommy, the boss. Epic idea. Since this game has been in development for nearly a decade, maybe, just maybe, someone at Rockstar thought of this and had Ray record some lines. I just hope that is the case, because that would be...fuckin...awesome. (As an aside, my mom went to highschool with Ray Liotta. They were in the same year together. She wasn't friends with him, but she was a friend of his girlfriend at the time. The only description I can remember my mom telling me of her was that she had really long hair, like down to her mid thigh. Union High School, Union NJ IIRC, in case you were wondering. And no, he didn't go to any of the highschool reunions AFAIK.)

I'd like to know where this hypothetical McDonald's is that pays a $15 starting wage. They start at $8.50 in my city. Also, most corps that pay shit wages don't give out raises like you suggest, let alone allow you to make $20/hr without having a degree. The one I currently work for only gives out a 1% - 1.5% raises per year, and that's only if you meet all the requirements on your yearly evaluations - ie if you have to call out to care for a sick child more than 3 times in a 6 month period, no raise for you; car broke down and you had to catch the bus to work and were late because of that for more than 3 days in a 6 month period, no raise for you, etc.

$5k vacation? Private plane? What world are you living in? Trump land, I can only assume. No...just no. Even adjusting dollars to early 90's worth. $200 on gas (at most), staying at a relatives house in whatever state (for myself, as a kid, it would be ky. pa, or fl driving from nj or ct or va (dependent upon where we lived at that time)), and leaving the house at 3 or 4am to beat the traffic. Granted, this was the late 80's, early 90's, my dad was in the navy and the military pay was nowhere near as generous as it is now. An E8 then (with 21 years as of 1990 when he retired) could not afford what and E4 (with 5 years) can afford right now. I currently live next to an army post, and i, Every Damn Day, see an e4, e5, e6, buying a house for $250-350k. And every single damn one of them has at least one vehicle that has a sticker of over $50k as well. I apologize, I'm getting off topic. This election is getting to me a bit. Go Biden.

Submission + - Scene Bust Triggered Historic Drop in 'Pirate' Releases (torrentfreak.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Every day, millions of people download or stream pirated content including movies, TV-shows, games, MP3s, and books. Many of these files originate from a small and tightly organized ‘community’ commonly known as The Scene, which is made up of dozens of smaller ‘release groups.’ These groups tend to operate in the shadows with little or no public profile. At least, that’s what the unwritten rules dictate. That’s for good reason as the people involved risk high prison sentences when caught. It’s very rare for Scene group members to get busted but last week the US Government claimed a major victory. With help from international law enforcement partners, several raids and arrests were carried out, with the SPARKS group at the center of it all.

As soon as the first rumors about the raids started spreading on Tuesday, the number of Scene releases started to drop. A day later, when confirmation came in, it became even quieter. With data provided by Predb.org we take a closer look at these dropoffs, showing that some categories are affected more than others. Before delving into detailed groups, it’s worth pointing out the overall impact, which can be summarized in two numbers. On Wednesday, August 19, there were 1944 new releases. A week later, a day after the first raids, this number was down to 168 releases. The drop in new releases happened across all categories.

Below is a line graph showing the most popular “TV-X64” category where the date of the raids is clearly visible. In the days after the raids, there were just a few dozen new releases at most compared to many hundreds a week earlier. A similar trend can be observed in other categories, such as Anime, X264 (movies), and XXX, shown below. There are clearly fewer releases after the raids, but there are still some. The same can’t be said for other categories such as Games and Ebooks, where nothing new came out in the days after the raids. Looking more closely at individual release groups in TV and movie categories shows that some have ‘disappeared’ completely. For example, the group TRUMP previously released dozens of new shows a week. After the raids, however, nothing new appeared. With that in mind, we’ll close with the MP3 category, where signs of recovery are visible. After an initial drop, a new two-week record of over 800 releases was set the Sunday after the raid, suggesting that groups were catching up.

Submission + - Warrior skeletons reveal Bronze Age Europeans couldn't drink milk (sciencemag.org)

sciencehabit writes: About 3000 years ago, thousands of warriors fought on the banks of the Tollense river in northern Germany. They wielded weapons of wood, stone, and bronze to deadly effect: Over the past decade, archaeologists have unearthed the skeletal remains of hundreds of people buried in marshy soil. It’s one of the largest prehistoric conflicts ever discovered. Now, genetic testing of the skeletons reveals the homelands of the warriors—and unearths a shocker about early European diets: These soldiers couldn’t digest fresh milk.

The results leave scientists more puzzled than ever about exactly when and why Europeans began to drink milk. “Natural genetic drift can’t explain it, and there’s no evidence that it was population turnover either,” says Christina Warinner, a geneticist at Harvard University and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History who was not involved with the study. “It’s almost embarrassing that this is the strongest example of selection we have and we can’t really explain it.”

Perhaps something about fresh milk helped people ward off disease in the increasingly crowded and pathogen-ridden European towns and villages of the Iron Age and Roman period, says the study's co-author. But he admits he’s baffled too. “We have to find a reason why you need this drink.”
