Well i asked chatGPT. It gave me a whole speil about how great it is and how misunderstood AI is. I then asked what was wrong about its answer and got the following which i think explains a lot.
"Some psychological explanations were correct but one-sided. I emphasized cognitive biases (normalization, threat response, negativity bias), but I didn’t explore rational reasons someone might not be impressed, such as:
- many AIs aren’t reliable enough for critical tasks
- hallucinations are still common
- AI can appear impressive but lacks consistent reasoning
- alignment constraints restrict behavior
- corporate products often feel less magical than raw models
- early hype set expectations extremely high
Those are valid, non-psychological reasons people are less impressed."
and then
"I didn’t mention the role of overhype. A major reason some people aren’t impressed is simply:
- Expectations were pushed unrealistically high, so reality feels smaller by comparison.
I underexplained that."
and finally:
"The answer wasn’t wrong, but it was:
- one-sided
- too general
- too psychological
- not careful about whether the premise was accurate
- missing practical, cultural, and systemic reasons"
