Journal singularity's Journal: Installing Darwin on Singularity 1
OK, I have been thinking about how best to use Singularity, my Umax S900/200DP after the new computer gets here (monitor shipped yesterday, apparently).
I was looking at several open-source OSes to install. NetBSD and LinuxPPC were the first two that came to find. After researching them both, however, I found that dual processor support is somewhat lacking. Well, I should not say that. LinuxPPC seems to support dual PPC processors, but with a specific kernel and not a lot of good documentation on it.
If someone can point me to a web page saying otherwise, I am going to skip LinuxPPC due to lack of good documentation.
That left me with one alternative - Darwin, from Apple.
This should be fun. Darwin's multiple processor support seems to be... interesting.
Darwin's current support of "Old World" machines seems to be... interesting.
So I have put together a few links to help me out in my quest. If it works, I may very well have to write up a Slashdot article. This does not seem to be a very popular thing to do.
First I will need to run XPostFacto to allow Darwin to install on an Old World machine.
From there I will be following the basic instructions on the DarInfo site and the GNU-Darwin site.
I will write back here and let you know how it goes.
I am hoping to install Gnome over Darwin
