sinclair44 writes: Tonight, Facebook plans to release as open-source the "HipHop for PHP" project, a transformer from PHP to C++. By sacrificing only a few features of PHP, HipHop and g++ together are able to compile PHP all the way down to machine code. Facebook claims that this insanely cool project has gained them about a 50% CPU usage decrease on their webservers.
